Reality Check: The Fight for Alfie Evans

His name was Alfie Evans, a 24-month-old baby who died in the U.K. on Saturday. Though his life was mercilessly short, Alfie was at the center of a heart-wrenching debate over who should have the final authority over a child’s medical care. The parents or the state? And at what point does medical care cross the line into medical kidnapping? Did that happen here? Little Alfie Evans passed away on Saturday. The story of his life and, ultimately, his death have raised a huge debate over the issue of the right to life and the right to fight for life.

There has been a few of these cases recently in the U.K. One in particular the parents took the boy to another country for treatment and an arrest warrant was issued for them. The child did deceive his treatment and isn’t now well and the state had dropped the charges against them. When I read about Alfie I could not fathom
Why the parents were not allowed to continue looking for treatments for him? The stem
Cell therapy was not used and I believe the more the case progressed the more the NHS was incentivised to end his life lest they have another case on their hands like the one mentioned at the beginning of my post – and plenty of egg on their faces. I actually started to think he was a human sacrifice to save their reputations.

If Alfie had been provided with stem cell therapy and cured of this condition, Alder Hey hospital would have looked foolish to the world ! This is the only reason I can find for their unethical and unprofessional approach.

What can we expect when our and our children’s fate is in the hands of a cold cruel unsympathetic hands of a heartless bureaucratic system, where there is no mercy under no circumstances – Think about this, if you are a parent.
